Beltangady, Oct 4: “Mind is present in every cell of our body and it can be treated well with an internal understanding. A real mind is one which has tranquillity,” said Manipal University former vice chancellor Dr B M Hegde.
He was delivering a guest lecture at SDM College, Ujire in an event organised by the post graduate department of psychology to commemorate ‘Mental Health Day’ on Thursday October 3.
He stated that a baby in womb smiles 500-1000 times a day, but we hardly smile twice daily. Hatred is the biggest load on an individual carries and one should shun it to lead a long and happy life, he added.
Referring to the different stages of mind in Ayurveda, he explained, “Human mind attains five different states starting from birth. This cycle starts with ‘Manas’ amongst children and progresses to ‘Buddi’ when the child is sent for formal education. Subsequently, the stages of ‘Chitta’, ‘ Purusha’ are reached and in the ultimate stage of ‘Eeshwara’ one achieves enlightenment.
Condemning the exploitative attitude of the contemporary medical establishments, he roared that medical establishments are creating diseases to sell their drug. All the so called health drives arranged by these establishments are nothing but business ventures in disguise, he stated.
SDM College principal Dr B Yashovarma was present on the occasion. Dean of PG studies Dr M Y Manjula welcomed the guest and the gathering. Student Deepa compered the proceedings.
