M'lore: T S Thomas gets int'l credential as addiction professional

Mangalore, Sep 21: T S Thomas, the former director of Link De-addiction centre, Mangalore has received international accreditation and credential as an addiction counselor from NAADAC, a US-based global association of addiction professionals.

The Professional Testing Corporation, New York, managed by the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) conducted the examination in Bangkok in July in association with the Asian Centre for Certification and Education for Addiction Professionals (ACCE), Colombo Plan.

NADDAC is the premier Global Organization of Addiction Professionals which awards credentials to the addiction professionals after training and testing with the “Universal Curriculum on Drug Treatment and Counseling”. In Asia, ACCE, Colombo Plan is the affiliated Organization which conducts the training, conduct examination and award certification.

T.S Thomas did his post graduation in Social work from Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore and founded the Link Anti Addiction Movement in 1991 which later registered as Link Anti Addiction Citizens Committee. He served Link De-addiction center as its Director for 18 years since 1992- 2010 and built up the alcohol and drug treatment in Mangalore as one of the best models in India.

Currently, he serves Colombo Plan Treatment Project Support Officer, involved in facilitation, training and transition of the Drug Treatment Project to the Government of Afghanistan.
