Guwahati, Sep 20 (IANS): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the home and political department to prepare a work schedule to prevent crimes against women across the state.
The instruction came Thursday night after a task force, constituted by the government earlier this year to study the issue of crimes against women, submitted its report to Gogoi at his official residence at Koinadhara Hills in Guwahati.
The task force, led by Assam's Additional Director General of Police (CID) Mukesh Sahai, suggested several scientific and practical measures to check crimes against women.
The force also suggested setting up of "crisis intervention centres" in various places and to associate police, doctors, legal experts and non-governmental organisations.
Gogoi has asked the department concerned to prepare the programme in a month's time, a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office said here Friday.
He also said various departments must cooperate in checking crimes against women and the guilty should be arrested and tried in a fast track court.
The chief minister instructed the department to identify the areas where maximum number of incidents of crimes against women have taken place.
"There is also an urgent need to create awareness against crimes against women in the state," he said.
