Mangalore, Feb 21: In an auction which took place at the Mangalore City Corporation office here, the Kudroli slaughterhouse was taken over by the Bajrang Dal for an annual tender of Rs 8 lac.
The slaughterhouse was bought at a bid of Rs 8 lac by Rajesh Shetty of Kavoor Bajrang Dal unit. The bid began with MCC placing Rs 5.30 lac, which was in turn raised by the bidders. At one stage it looked as if Nagesh Bajilakeri of Hindu Yuvasene had won the bid Rs 6.75 lac. So when the process started to turn into a closed tender, Rajesh Shetty bagged the tender for Rs 8 lac.
It could be recalled that last year the Hindu organizations had put a bid for the slaughterhouse but had missed it narrowly. But this year they grabbed it amidst stiff competition.
This has been regarded as major victory for Hindu organizations that have been pressing hard for a total ban on cow slaughter. This was so evident as they burst crackers outside the MCC building at Lalbagh soon after winning the bid.
