Mangalore, Feb 21:  The Institute of Konkani of the St Aloysius College will be celebrating its silver jubilee on Wednesday February 22 at 3.30 pm at the college premises.

Fr Francis Serrao SJ, rector, St Aloysius College, will preside.  Fr Victor Machado, rector, St Joseph’s Seminary, and Blasius D’Souza, MLC, will be the guests of honour. Dr Edward Nazareth, Konkani litterateur, will render a lecture on the late Bennette Pinto Memorial.  Eric Ozario, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, will deliver a message.

The institute was started in 1980 to mark the centenary celebration of the college.  Initiated with an aim to promote the growth and development of Konkani language, more than 200 students have now completed their PG diploma course so far. 

It has a library with more than 10,000 books on Konkani literature. The institute organizes discussions, seminars, conventions etc for the growth of the language. 

St Aloysius College has the credit of introducing Konkani language as a second language for BA courses.
