Mexico City, Sep 4 (IANS/EFE): One person was injured and 11 vehicles were damaged when 26 Mexico City Mounted Police horses stampeded near the lower house of Congress, officials said.
The mounted officers had been deployed around Congress as part of the security measures implemented Monday to deal with protests, Federal District Public Safety Secretariat officials said.
The horses were apparently spooked by traffic noise.
A video shot by a driver and posted on YouTube shows the riderless horses galloping between vehicles on the Circuito Bicentenario, a major Mexico City road.
"It was like Jumanji," Federal District Public Safety Secretary Jesus Rodriguez Almeida said, referring to the film based on a supernatural board game.
All of the horses were rounded up and a few of the animals were treated by veterinarians for injuries, Rodriguez Almeida said.
The police department will pay for all the damage caused by the horses, the Mexico City police chief said.
"I have given instructions to the legal affairs (department) so we can cover all the damage," Rodriguez Almeida said.
