Court stays vote against Gurgaon district council chief

Gurgaon, Aug 24 (IANS): The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the no-confidence motion moved by councillors against Gurgaon Zila Parishad (district council) chairman Kavita Yadav 26 days ago, an official said Saturday.

Seven out of ten district councillors had moved the no-confidence motion against her July 29.

Yadav had then moved the high court against the vote contending that nine non-official members of Zila Parishad were not present during no-confidence motion as they were not informed by the presiding officer.

The non-official members includes the local MP, four legislators from the district and the chairmen from four Block Samitis.

"The court of Justice R.K. Jain put a stay on no-confidence motion," Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi told IANS.

The date of election for electing new chairman was Aug 27 but now it has been cancelled.

The next hearing will be on Sept 3, said Vidyarthi.
