New Delhi, Aug 13 (IANS): BJP Tuesday demanded that an all-party parliamentary delegation be sent to Jammu and Kashmir to get first-hand information on the situation in riot-hit Kishtwar.
"The incidents which have taken place in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir do not augur well for the country," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath said in the Lok Sabha during question hour.
He claimed that the riots were an attempt to push back the state to the 1990s when Hindus were compelled to migrate from there. "The district authorities did not react to the situation. This is a very unfortunate incident," he said, adding that rather than checking the incident, "elements who were raising anti-India slogans received patronage from the state government".
Parliament was repeatedly disrupted Monday over the riots.
Communal clashes in Kishtwar have claimed three lives.
The clashes took place Aug 9 after one group of people attacked another group raising pro-independence slogans on the day Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated. More than 80 shops, a petrol pump, an oil tanker, and some vehicles of the state police and fire department were torched in addition to government buildings.
