Beltangady, Jul 28: Call it infatuation, love, or simply, eagerness to get married. In what could probably be called one-of-a-kind incident, a girl who eloped with her lover, got married and then caught, has chosen to wait for her man in the remand home rather than go to her own home.

A 19-year-old girl from Balanja in Venoor here who had gone missing a few days ago was found in Karkala with her lover.

The girl had left her house on the night of July 17. Her mother had lodged a complaint in Venoor police station.

The girl, a college student, fell in love with Sukesh Gowda, a resident of Kaniyoor. The couple had eloped on July 17 and were found by the police during their search in Karkala.

The couple have got married, but the boy is still 6 months short of completing 21 years, which is the legal age for marriage for a male. Hence their marriage did not get official approval.

The youth went back to his hometown, while the girl has stayed put in the Udupi remand home waiting for him. She has refused to go back to her parents.

Both are students of a college in Laila, the girl in first year and the boy in the final year degree.

    The marriage with minors is illegal and need to be legalised on becoming major and remarrying again.Eloping with loved one is not a good practice becuse of the social stigma.Hope,the couple understand this and realise their mistake and do the needful to make it legal.All the best.Thanq.

    Every type Love is unique in its own way but we cannot neglect or sideline our love for monther, sister at the cost of our love for own girl friend or life partner.

    Girl showed first or boy showed first is not the problem. They are in it together.Once sweet dish is prepared can you take out sugar from it? Same way-love also.

    It's after all fault of gal.
    Gals are maturing faster and spoiling the boys.
    How dare she stays at remand home..neglecting her parents.
    These Gals don't want to study..only to enjoy happiness at young age itself.
    It's the plan of gal to elope..no doubt.
    Boy is victimised..should stop visiting gal to teach her a lesson.
    Let at proper age after 25 get married..if possible gal should wait upto period completing her studies.
    Upto now not able to make out what's cooking in any of gal's mind.

    However, I feel inter caste marriages and aren and ll should also be promoted. Hearts and Hearts and all that must be allowed to meet.

    Same religion is a relief to quite an extent but then comes Gotra/Bari and so on. This may be exactly why the girl does not want to return home. She did the right thing by deciding to stay in the remand home but I wish she is safe there, not enticed to do something illegal and the boy does not change his mind once his education is complete.

    We need to let go the barrier or this Gotra/Bari restriction and give freedom to youth to choose parted from same religion. This will reduce dowry related problems and exorbitant expenses incurred for marriages by girls' parents.

    Marriage is not just circling the holy fire, nor saying 'I Do' in front religious heads nor uttering 'Kabool Hai' to Qazi. It needs registering with legal authorities.

    You may have read that he is under-age to register his marriage. What if he changes his mind and decides not to register it ? Where the girl will head to ? Just imagine !
