Mangalore: Konkani Kutam, Bahrain to present 12th annual award on Jul 28

Mangalore, Jul 24: With the view to support Konkani writers and artistes, Konkani Kutam, Bahrain instituted ‘Konkani Kutam Award’ in 2002. This year the association will confer its 12th ‘Konkani Kutam Bahrain’ award on Avitas Adolphus Cutinha, popularly known as Dolla Mangalore, said Richard Moras, convener of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday July 24, Moras said that the award will be presented at a function to be held on Sunday July 28 at 6.30 pm at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore.
Briefing further, he said Dolla Mangalore, a playwright, director, radio artiste and comedy actor, will be conferred the prestigious award for his immense contribution for the cause of Konkani language and literature.
The award ceremony will be presided over by MLA J R Lobo from Mangalore south. Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO, Udupi diocese will be the chief guest while C G S Taccode, renowned Konkani writer will be the guest of honor.
The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation and a memento.
About Adolphus Cutinha
Avitas Adolphus Cutinha (Dolla Mangalore) is a multifaceted personality. He has directed more than 50 dramas and played comedy roles in more than 300 Konkani and Tulu plays. He has directed some religious plays like Mother Teresa, Devache Dha Upades (Ten Commandments), Shipai Santh (Soldier Saint), Somia Tum Khaim Vetai? (Lord, Where Thou Goest?) and others.
He has performed quite a number of magic shows apart from his usual popular comedy shows like Dol-Fel-Chal, Dolla-Kulla and others.
As a fabulous actor Dolla had opportunities to prove his talent in the movies too. He played comedy roles in Konkani movies 'Bhoglant' (Allegation), 'Mog Ani Moipas' (Love and Affection) and also a few Kannada films like 'Tuvvi Tuvvi', 'SMS 6260', and Tulu telefilm 'Sahana'. He has produced 'Dol-Fel-Chal' and 'Fokannam Fokannam' audio cassettes containing his unique jokes. He has also published two books of jokes - 'Kuch Kuch Kuchileo' and 'Hip Hip Hurray'.
Dolla has given numerous comedy shows not only in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts but also in Mysore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. He has been felicitated by quite a number of associations in India and abroad including Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy. At present Avitus Adolphus is serving MCC Bank Ltd as one of its directors.
Titus Noronha, co-ordinator of award presentation committee, committee members Melvyn Rodrigues, Willliam Pais and Leslie Rego were present.
