Mangalore, Jul 19: A book, authored by Mangalore based researcher academician professor Arunachalam Kumar on the origin and evolution of erect posture and two-legged gait in humans, titled ‘Biped Stance & Stride’ has been selected by a German publishing for print and worldwide distribution.
Dr Kumar, professor of Human Anatomy is presently the director (research and development) of the Nitte University has over three decades teaching experience.
He has authored eight books and published over 100 original research papers. In addition he has presented over one hundred papers at state, zonal, national and international forums and conferences.
Professor Kumar, who has a deep interest in evolutionary biology extensively and physical anthropology is the recipient of a number of recognitions including the District Rajyotsava award for distinguished service and the Dr TMA Pai gold medal for his research.
The book scheduled for publication this year, dwells on development of orthrograde gait and biped stance in early humans, also presents several new and novel hypotheses and theories on the conversion of quadrupedal Australopithecus into the Homo erectus.
