Udupi, Jul 19: Free tri-cycles and wheel chairs, sanctioned by the Udupi District handicap welfare office, were distributed in Byndoor on Sunday July 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Kundapur Taluk rehabilitation worker Manjunath Hebbar Kalthodu, said that not just aid from the government, but various associations working for the welfare of the handicapped need to be united and urge the government to set aside a job quota of 5 percent in every private and public firm.
Chief guest of the occasion Venkatesh Koni, honorary president, Karnataka state handicapped and parents’ federation, Udupi district, spoke on the occasion. He said that all types of handicapped people need to get discounts on bus passes throughout the state. “Handicapped Taluk village multi-purpose rehabilitation workers’ honorary funds should be increased and the positions have to be made permanent,” he urged the government.
Wheelchairs and tricycles were distributed to Venkatayya Devadiga Paduvari, Mohammed Abdul Gafoor, and Lakshmi. Koteshwara K Krishna, Paduvari Anitha, Uppunda Babu K Devadiga, and Byndoor Radhakrishna D were present on the occasion.
Koni compered and K Krishna Koteshwar proposed the vote of thanks.
