Bangalore, Jul 16: Entire Karnataka will be covered by Aadhaar by June next year.

A total of 3.2 crore people have so far enrolled and 2.41 crore of them have been already issued Aadhaar numbers and cards, the chief minister Siddaramaiah told the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

In a reply to a question of N Cheluvarayaswamy, JD(S), during the question hour, the chief minister said he had discussions with Unique Identification Authority of India Chairman Nandan M Nilekani on coverage of Aadhaar in the State.

“Our aim is to speed up the project. Our target is to cover the entire state by June, 2014,” he said.
Aadhaar centers would be opened at all Hobli levels, the Chief Minister said.

The JD(S) leader, who raised the issue, highlighted the severe hardship caused to the public, especially to the rural people, as there is heavy rush in these centres whose number needs to be increased in the State.

According to the Medium Term Fiscal Plan 2013-2017 tabled in the Assembly, the government is setting up the Karnataka Resident Data Hub (KRDH), which is a repository of the UID of all the residents of the State linked to various government services being availed by them.

The Government has started the UID based delivery of services through Aadhaar numbers in the districts of Mysore, Tumkur and Dharwad, he added.
