Mangalore, Jul 16: Indian Catholic Youth Movement, ICYM Bajpe in association with St Joseph’s PU College (NCC unit) and Rotary Club Bajpe celebrated Vanamahostava with the motto “GO GREEN BAJPE” on July 14 by distributing and planting a few saplings in the Bajpe locality.
The programme was inaugurated symbolically by planting a coconut sapling followed by the Eucharistic celebration. Fr Leo Lobo, parish priest and Fr Praveen D’Souza, assistant parish priest St Joseph’s Church Bajpe prayed during the mass and emphasized saying protecting the nature as our responsibility.
In order to create environmental awareness among the people, a procession to Bajpe bus stand was organized after the mass. It was led by the school band and students of St Joseph’s PU College (NCC unit). All the YCS and ICYM members and parishioners participated actively in the procession holding placards and banners.
The chief guests for this function was Rithesh Shetty, vice president Zilla Panchayat. Other honorary person who were present on the dais were Fr Leo Lobo, Jockim D'Costa, member of Taluk Panchayath , Pradeep Suvarna, president, Bajpe Grama Panchayath, Br Hector Pinto, principal, St Joseph’s PU College, Bajpe, Madhava Amin , president, Rotary Club, George D’souza, retired teacher, Sylvester D’souza, animator of ICYM Bajpe were on the dais. ICYM president, Roshan Periera welcomed the gathering.
The chief guest Rithesh Shetty gave a call not just plant more but take care of the plan throughout its growing. George D’souza addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of trees, especially the medicinal plants. Secretary Viola Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.
The guests planted the saplings in the place allocated by the Panchayat in Bajpe premises. The programme was compered by vice president, Ruben D’souza. As many as 300 people took part in this function and almost all carried saplings home and took an interest to plant more plants in their home thus showed love towards nature by planting sapling in the home surroundings.
