Puttur, Jul 9: Urban development minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, vowed to ensure that Kadaba is carved out as a separate taluk from out of Puttur taluk. He also said that he had held elaborate discussions on preparing a master plan for the overall development of the town including improving underground drainage system and widening of the roads, towards getting district headquarters status for Puttur.
He was speaking at a meeting organized at the Congress party office in the town on Monday July 8.
“A sum of Rs 38 crore has been earmarked under Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project (KUDCEMP) towards the execution of drinking water project of the town. There is also a demand to execute II phase of KUDCEMP project for improving underground drainage. If the population of the town crosses 50,000, we can forcefully put forth the demand for making this a district headquarters,” Sorake felt.
The minister noted that the issue of below poverty line (BPL) ration cards has not found a lasting solution during the last five years, and noted that several above poverty line (APL) families have been deprived of the facility of supply of rice through the ration shops. He said he had discussed this issue with the chief minister, and that the latter had promised to take steps to address this issue.
He said the government will soon issue title deeds to poor people living in government land, and to hike the subsidy for housing scheme of the poor people from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,20,000.
At the meeting, in which MLA Shakuntala Shetty also participated, several memorandums were handed over to the minister. Block Congress president, Hemanath Shetty, and various other party leaders were present.
