Manipal gang-rape: Victim discharged from hospital

Udupi, Jul 4: The Manipal University student who was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three was on Thursday July 4 discharged from hospital.
Reliable sources said that the girl was discharged at night but it is not known where she has been taken.
The girl, a fourth-year MBBS student hailing from Kerala, was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three men on the night of June 20. The same night, she was dropped back to her flat by one of the accused and later admitted to Manipal hospital. The incident came to light on June 21 morning.
For over a week, the girl had refused to meet the police directly but eventually agreed to give her statement on the incident, on condition of confidentiality put forth by her parents. She is expected to identify the accused soon and give detailed statement which would help the police file a chargesheet.
Three persons were arrested on June 27, a week after the incident took place. Two of them, Yogish and Anand, tried to commit suicide but were saved in the nick of time by the police and admitted to hospital. While Anand was discharged and remanded in five-day police custody, Yogish is still in hospital. Another accused, Hariprasad, has been sent to Shimoga jail till July 15 under judicial custody. Balachandra and Harindra, brothers of Yogish and Hariprasad, were also arrested and sent to judicial custody till July 15 on charges of destroying evidence.
