Focus on evacuating people in far-flung regions: Bahuguna

Dehradun, Jul 2 (IANS): With over 3,000 people still missing after last month's devastating floods, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna Tuesday said the focus is now to reach out to people stuck in far-flung regions of the state.

He said the state government and various relief and rescue agencies are trying to reach out to people still stuck across the state.

"Now the mission is to provide relief to our people and to reach out to them. Thankfully the weather is clear today (Tuesday)," Bahuguna told reporters here.

"In Pithoragarh, where 800 people have to be evacuated, they will be evacuated through choppers. The situation in far-flung regions of the state is bad and the main aim is to provide water and ration to the people in various villages of the state," he said.

On a United Nations report putting the missing number at 11,000, Bahuguna said: "What we have is that over 3,000 people are missing and that has been done with the help of the various agencies and the centre."

"I will say the administration should see this report," he added.
