Udupi: Five students arrested for ganja trafficking near Manipal

Udupi, Jun 13: The policemen of the town police station here arrested five college students, who were selling ganja near Indrali railway cross near Manipal here, in the afternoon of Wednesday June 12.

Shashank R Tingalaya (19), son of Ravindra G Tingalaya from Kodavoor Salmara, Godwin (19), son of Stany D'Souza, resident of Santhekatte near here, Sham Pras Godwin (18) son of Samuel Santosh from Hanumanthanagar in Nittoor, Shervin (19), son of Stephan Amanna, resident of Shiribeedu here, and Akash Salian (18), son of Anand Kitti Salian, a native of Dombivili, Mumbai, were arrested in this incident.

The police seized 850 grams ganja and six cell phones from the possession of these students.

The police said that the above students were found to have concealed the plastic sachets containing ganja inside their T-shirts. They had conducted the raid based on reliable information that ganja was being sold at the spot.

The accused had started fleeing after seeing the police party, but the policemen succeeded in chasing and arresting them.

The value of ganja seized has been put at Rs 20,000. Police sub-inspector (PSI) of the station, Meenakshi, and PSI of crime branch, Aithappa, led the raid.

A case stands registered in the town police station against the students. Investigation has been taken up.

    abdulla...you want them killed? are you crazy?...Im a medico...alcohol and tobacco are far more dangerous than ganja...ganja addiction can be easily treated n has not proven to cause any deaths while the above two do....i agree with cynthia...pls dont mistake me...i dont support its use but your suggested remedies are bull$#!t

    Abdullah, R these drug sellers force feeding drugs to their coustomers ? Everyone has their mind, its their choice to consume and continue to consume drugs. The countries you have mentioned are not democratic,even if they mass murder their citizens, no one has the voice to talk about. India is a democratic, anyone can challenge the govt... that's the beauty !

    In democratic India -they go scot free after few hearings.
    do you know how many innocent poor lives and families they destroy?
    By Law all :Pimps-druglords- peddlers-extortionists- money launderers-rapists-killers-hawala dealers should be uted summarily in 24 hours and their organs to be used for needy patients.

    This is not something new in Manipal area. Because of the influx of rich multinational students at Manipal drug trafficking has been in full swing for the past many years. It is high time for the authorities and the Manipal Educationists to wake up and do something to control this menace, otherwise what kind of Doctors and Engineers we will be producing??

    Thousands of parents are already crying secretly since their kids are hopelessly led astray by these innocent looking monsters. The only solution to this horrible menace is to ensure those caught will never sell again. How do we do that ? Feed the the same stuff till they are done away with ?put them behind bars for life ? anything is welcome that can save our next generation.

    It is given to understand in some articles there are narcotic plantation is active inbetween the Rubber,Arecanut,Banana plantation surrounding the districts. To curb out the menace the District authorities should take a stringent action to monitor such places. Recently there was a report in KERALA big haul of narcotics plantation found in between the hills. Those who involved were arrested, Govt. has taken appropriate action.

    Feel sad reading this.. My personal view - The boys here are not only spoiling their life and image but also putting shame to their family where they could have seen it stating "Son Of" for a better achivement!!! rather than this trafficking incident..to stop this crime It should be a collective effort not only of the society or govt..but in this modern world do families have time to check on their kids?

    We are facing other type of terrorist and terrorism Drug abuse and drugs trafficking is one of them which result in slow death for younger generation As a pharmacist by profession I know the side effects of drugs and abuse It is duty of everyone tosave our yonger generation from drugs abuse I suggests to include it as a lesson in the school It is duty of teachers parents police to guide our younger generatin away from drugs abuse I thank daiji world for this topic

    Being a Pharmacist, I would expect you to know that "ganja" is not a drug. It is regulated in a lot of countries and allowed for public use.

    It certainly is something to because it is considered to be a gateway drug. also you can't compare it to terrorism, maybe an epidemic. I don't mean to ruin your comment, just putting the facts out there.

    so young 'boys' involved in selling 'ganja'..!! may be someone 'provoked' for small sum to do such things.. in the beginning drug dealers selling the stuff for college students in a 'joint' free-of-charge..after addiction they themselves bound to buy the product..!! when it will going to stop god only knows..!! pakistan somewhat successful..to involve youngsters in these act..most of northern states..already into it..!! many source of our neighbouring countries itself is 'drugs' without which there 'economy' won't survive.. and for them market itself is India and other asian countries as well as middle east..!! really strange..!!
