Mangalore, Jun 4: ‘Kalakul’ – the only theatre repertory of Konkani, presented a play titled ‘Bomma’ on Sunday June 2, at Kalaangann.
The play is an adaptation by Arun Raj Rodrigues of a story (‘Hordyar Khuris’) written by Late A T Lobo. Christopher D’Souza Neenasum, the chief trainer of ‘Kalakul’, directed the play. The 90 minutes’ play was well appreciated by the houseful gathering for its technical excellence and acting proficiency.
‘Bomma’ play is about a simpleton, deaf and dumb and an orphan, who has no family or friends nor has a place he can call his own. He lives by doing odd jobs that others would shy away from doing and all he desired in return was food (even left-overs) to quell his insatiable hunger. The story is about ‘Bomma’ – how he lived and died in the service of his fellow beings.
Stany Alvares, president, Mandd Sobhann, garlanded the portrait of the Late A T Lobo, in an act of tribute to the great writer. Alice Lobo, the President of ‘A T Lobo Foundation’, was also honoured on the occasion.
Melwyn Fernandes, the brother of Patrick Fernandes Canada, the sponsor of the monthly theatre, was also felicitated.
Arun Raj Rodrigues, the writer of the play conducted the ceremonies.
