Mangalore, Jun 1: Shekar Basu, director, BARC, Mumbai, inaugurated the St Aloysius Advanced Research Centre in the teletorium of St Aloysius College, on Saturday June 1.
Fr Denzil Lobo, Stan D’Souza, Richard Gonsalves, Fr Swebert D’Silva, and Dr Narahari were also present on the dais.
The research centre was officially inaugurated by lighting of the auspicious lamp by the chief guest and the dignitaries present on the dais.
In his address and the discussion session, Basu explained the uses and necessities of nuclear energy in the present day. “It is laudable that St Aloysius College has been giving high importance to research and development. The college has given three major research projects and I wish it will soon rise to 30,” he said.
“Nuclear energy plays a massive role in present times. The second green revolution has to come from nuclear energy,” said Basu. He further suggested that the college administration arrange for an exhibition and a workshop on the nuclear energy generation and its uses for its students and the faculty so as to make them more familiar with the subject.
Staff from the chemistry department and various other branches were present in large numbers.
