Udupi, May 31: In a new initiative, Udupi Rises for Justice against Atrocities (URJAA), a non-political organization has been formed as a platform for people who have been victimized.
"Having witnessing many incidents at closed quarters in the recent times in the city, a need for a common platform for discussion for the victims was felt as the need of the hour," said URJAA member Sadhana Kini, addressing a press meet here on Friday May 31.
The reason for the formation of 'URJAA' is to create awareness of law among the rural and urban citizens, including about details of clauses and sections of the law and their implications, she said.
"In times of distress we are incapable of lodging an appropriate FIR which leads to the issue being diluted, making legal justice highly impossible. Incident and mishaps could happen to anyone at any time but timely assistance and guidance are not available, as a result citizens are demoralized and harassed in many ways," said Sadhana Kini.
"We are creating this platform to try and bring down the level of grievances of the people and bridge the gap between citizens and legal issues. Official inauguration of the forum will be held soon. We welcome the citizens of Udupi to become members of this forum after its registration," she said.
Ambika Nayak narrated an incident wherein some persons allegedly attacked her and looted her ornaments and camera, but were roaming freely without any action being taken against them despite a complaint.
“Even though I have clear video footage of the attackers, I have been denied justice. I have proof with me that the culprits have not been arrested yet," she said.
"My husband is in Dubai I stay with two my children. Some unknown people attacked me and I sustained a fracture. These things could happen to anyone. Where shall I go? Now, people like me we will get a platform to discuss our problems and issues and get proper follow-ups," she added.
Divya Hegde, Ambika G Nayak, Anitha Nayak and Revathi Nadiger were present.
