Mangalore: Auto rickshaw driver loots women of gold, cash worth Rs 7 lac

Mangalore, May 31: An auto rickshaw driver allegedly robbed a mother-daughter duo of their valuables on Thursday May 30. The value of gold ornaments looted by him has been put at seven lac rupees, and the women reportedly were also relieved of Rs 5000 cash found in their possession.
Khaleeda (55), and her daughter, Farah Kausar (28), residents of Vijayanagar, Bangalore, had arrived here on Thursday morning to take part in a marriage function at Bikarnakatte in the city.
They alighted at Jyothi bus stop in the city from the private bus early morning, and hired an auto rickshaw to reach Bikarnakatte. However, the rickshaw driver, instead of taking the passengers to Bikarnakatte, summoned two of his friends by making a phone call, and took the vehicle to an unidentified destination with the passengers and his friends. After stopping his rickshaw there, he, supported by his friends, put pressure on the women to hand over their gold ornaments.
When the two resisted, the three inflicted scratch injuries on the hands and necks of the duo, before snatching away ornaments worth seven lac rupees and Rs 5,000 in cash. Thereafter, the women were taken by the robbers in another rickshaw and dumped by the roadside,before making good their escape. The women then called their relatives over phone and conveyed the information to them. With help of relatives, both of them got admitted into a private hospital, and lodged police complaint.
