Bangalore: Khadar conducts midnight raid on hospitals, warns of strict action

Bangalore, May 29: Getting down to serious business as the newly-inducted minister of health and family affairs, U T Khadar in a midnight crackdown raided two government hospitals and took the staff to task.
In a surprise move, Khadar raided Jayanagar Government Hospital and Government HSIS Gosha Hospital, Shivajinagar in his private vehicle at around 12.30 am on Wednesday May 29.
During the raid, the minister found that doctors, nurses as well the security guards in both the hospitals were fast asleep. He took them to task and warned of strict action in the future.
"As this is the first time I am conducting raid here, I will be lenient. But next time I will take strict action if I find any laxity or dereliction of duty," he warned.
"Government hospitals are for the poor, hence utmost care must be taken to see that they get all necessary facilities. Work should go on round the clock," he added.
He also spoke to some of the patients.
"The hospitals lack some basic facilities. I will work on it and see that they are well-equipped," he said.
In Shivajinagar hospital, he found that there were no proper records and there too, the security guard was asleep.
On Wednesday morning, Khadar followed up with a meeting with medical officers and discussed his findings. He also directed them to take strict action and ensure that government hospitals function with efficiency round the clock.
