Sullia, May 23: In a brutal incident reported from Kukkumajalu in Kodiyal village in the taluk on Wednesday May 22, a person was murdered by his own son. It is gathered that Dayanand (35), who was drunk, hit his father, Vishwanath Gowda (65), on the head with a hard object, killing him instantly.

Dayanand habitually got drunk and beat up his father, it is said. After he hit his father about six months back, the latter had suffered fracture in his leg, it is learnt. However, no police complaint was filed as the family membes were fearful of Dayanand's aggression.

At around midnight on Tuesday May 21, Dayanand reached home fully drunk, and started an argument with his father. Getting angry at the fact that his father did not accept his side of the argument, Dayanand hit his father on the head with a wooden platform used for climbing betel nut tree. Gowda had collapsed to the ground then, but on Wednesday, he was found to have lost his life on the spot.

His wife, Saraswati, had tried to protect her husband and also to call the neighbours. Dayanand locked her in a room, and continued hitting his father with the platform. One of the platforms broke into two, and he took the second one for the assault, it is said.

On Wednesday morning, after finding that his father had died on the spot, Dayanand was preparing for the funeral, as if nothing had happened. By then, Saraswati had spread the information in the locality, and the villagers conveyed the same to the policemen, who rushed to the spot.

The police have arrested Dayanand on a complaint filed by his sister, Kamala. Investigation has begun.
