Kasargod, May 10: In a tragic incident, emerging young singer Raima Chandran (24) of Uduma allegedly committed suicide here on Thursday May 9.
The incident came to light late evening on Thursday. She was staying in a rented house with her parents.
It is said that Raima's father Chandran, a school headmaster, dialled the residence number from his school office, but after several tries, when no one answered, he grew anxious and called his neighbour Unnikrishnan. The latter knocked on the door, but he too received no response. He alerted the locals, who then broke the door open. To their utter shock, they found Raima in her room hanging by the window grill.
A highly talented singer, Raima had participated in several contests and even won the hearts of listeners at the state-level. Daughter of Chandran, headmaster of ALP School, and Bhama, Raima was staying with family in a quarters in Uduma.
Recently, the family had gone on a visit to Vadakara, which is Bhama's parental house. While Raima and her father came back to Uduma, her mother stayed behind.
At the time of the incident, Raima was alone at home, as Chandran was away in school and his wife Bhama was in her parental house.
Sources said that two years ago, Raima was married off to a forest official from Kozhikode. However, within two months of the marriage, differences reportedly arose between the couple and Raima came back to stay with her parents in Uduma. Police suspect that family problems led her to take this extreme step.
Raima had lent her voice to several albums. She had even participated in a reality show on Kairali channel. She had won several prizes at school level too. Apart from her parents, Raima is survived by her brother Amal Chandra.
