Beltangady: Beware - This gang of 'salesmen' may give you serious 'gas trouble'

Beltangady, May 10: Of late, there has been a proliferation of people who carry around goods purported to have been manufactured by companies of repute, and conduct door to door sales. Gas stoves and such other items bearing familiar names are marketed by these people at a fraction of the price initially quoted by them.
These people succeed in enticing gullible customers by quoting maximum retail price initially, agreeing for a bargain, and finally accepting a price that sometimes is less than half the price they had initially quoted. Even at this rate, they make a hefty profit, as the manufacturing cost of these items happens to be less, and they do not conform to quality standards prescribed by the government. The consumers realize that they have been duped, only after using the materials for a few days, but by then these salesmen become untraceable.
In the recent past, a person from Haryana moved around in Beltangady, trying to sell a gas stove which bore the brand name, ‘Rapid’, on them. The packages showed the maximum retail price the stove, which is equipped with auto lighter, as Rs 8,595. He claimed the gas stove to be of international quality, and that it conforms to ISI standards. Later he offered it for half its price, and succeeded in hoodwinking the people.
The people who trusted him and bought the stoves came to know soon that the sheet on the stove which he had claimed to have been made of marble was in fact glass sheet, which would break when heated.
Therefore, there is a need for the consumers to be alert and inform the police whenever there is suspicion of cheating. They need to be very alert to ensure that they do not get duped by packages and products which resemble popular brands in looks. People should think thoroughly before becoming victims of deceitful tactics of the cheaters and take care not to fall for the gimmick of getting high quality items at cheap rates.
