Udupi: Nagamandalotsava held at Kachchoor Temple

Udupi, May 10: “The presence of the divine power which got awakened in the coastal belt that was created by Lord Parashurama as per mythology happens to be the serpent god, and the procedure formulated for the appeasement of this god is known as Nagamandala. This procedure is backed by lot of hard work, but at the same time, it also yields abundant fruits in the form of boons from the serpent god,” said Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji of Kukke Subrahmanya Math.
He was delivering benedictory address at the religious meeting organized at Barkur Kachchoor Lord Nageshwara Temple as part of Ashtapavitra Nagamandalotsava held there on Wednesday May 8. The presiding god of this temple happens to be the family deity of Bhandary community.
The Swamiji also wished that religious programmes will also result in general welfare of the society.
Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, inaugurated the programme. Suresh Bhandary, president of Nagamandala Celebrations Committee and president of the Bhandary Mahamandala presided.
Panja Bhaskar Bhat, who is a member of Karnataka State Religious Council, delivered an address on the facts and relevance of worshipping the serpent god. Founder president of Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti, Tonse Jayakrishna Shetty inaugurated the website of the organization.
Vedamurty B Krishnamurty Samaga, B R Vishwanath Shastri, Barkur Shantaram Shetty, municipal councilor of Udupi, Naveen N Bhandary, managing trustee of Kachchoor temple, Subhash Bhandary Udupi, president of Renovation and Seva Trust, Vijaya Bhandary Bailoor, and others were present.
Somashekhar M Bhandary, general secretary of Bhandary Mahamandala, welcomed. Hiriyanna Bhandary Balehonnur proposed vote of thanks. Nagesh Bajagoly presented the programme.
Silver jubilee celebrations of the temple renovation, and annual festival of the temple, were celebrated on this occasion. Donors and those who wholeheartedly worked to make the programmes successful were honoured on the occasion.
