Udupi: 50 couples enter wedlock at Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple

Udupi, May 2: As many as 50 couples entered wedlock at the 12th annual mass marriage ceremony held under the aegis of Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Mandarthi at Brahmavar here on Thursday May 2.
With this, the total number of couples married in all the annual mass marriages organized by the Temple so far has reached 338. In 2009-10, 55 couples got married during the ceremony, which is the highest for a year.
This year, among the 50 couples, 30 were from Udupi, 18 from Shimoga, and one each from Chikmagalur and Bangalore.
Each bride was given a Mangalsutra and saree, and each bridegroom a dhoti and shawl by the Temple.
The couples were then registered to obtain the funds allotted under the government's Adarsha Vivaha scheme.
Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple organizing committee president H Dhananjay Shetty, executive member M H Kumaraswamy, members H Vittal Shetty, Gopal Naik, K P Shekar, H Surendra Shetty, Ganesh Kunder Barkur, Malathi S Shetty, Ratna Marakalthi and others were present.
The religious rituals were held under the guidance of Vedamurthy Sripathi Adiga and Sadashiva Udupa.
