Mangalore: Jilted lover stabs girl, absconds

Mangalore, Apr 23: A girl, who allegedly refused to give in to the demand of a youth to love him and agree to marry him, was stabbed by the disheartened lover. The injured girl was hospitalized for treatment on Monday April 22.
The 26-year-old injured girl hailing from Beltangady, whose name has been withheld, has suffered injuries to her hand and head. Umakanth, the accused youth, is absconding.
The girl had completed nursing education and used to work in a hospital here, and stayed in the house of a relative. Umakant, who works in a hotel, came to know the girl about six months back, after which there met a number of times, it is gathered.
On Monday, the girl was walking towards her hospital, when Umakanth approached her all of a sudden, and declared his unfettered love for her. He asked her to express her unconditional love for him, and to promise to marry him. When she refused, he stabbed her in her head and hand, before running away. The girl, who collapsed on the spot, was carried to a hospital by an auto rickshaw driver.
A murder attempt case was registered in Pandeshwar police station in the city against the youth, whose permanent address is yet to be ascertained.
