Dubai, Apr 20: The 5th Lancy Noronha Nite, a free Konkani musical evening hosted at JSS School premises, Jumeirah on Friday, April 19 was an full-fledged entertainment package with music, dance and comedy.
Joseph Mathias, a Mangalorean entrepreneur, philanthropist, and talented singer organised the event to promote young musician and composer Lancy Noronha, and other talented artistes from Dubai.
Familiar faces of Dubai Asha Pinto Fernandes, Vincent Rodrigues, Lanita Nornha, Shyna Noronha, Preema D'Souza, Mario Rego, Sabitha Dsouza, Jeevan Vaz, Cresilla Rodrigues, Dainy D'Souza, along with Lancy Noronha and Joseph Mathias rendered songs from Lancy Noronha's lyrics and compositions.
Arun Lobo's Feat Beat group presented spectacular dance performances that added more glamour to the evening.
Well-known comedy team of Pradeep Barboza, Deepak D'Silva and Lavina Fernandes had the audience in roars of laughter with their innovative skits and jokes.
Apart from hit Konkani songs, Kannada and Tulu songs also captured the attention of the audience, as every song was appreciated by the music lovers with huge rounds of applause.
It was Dony and Asha Correa couple who gave life to the show with their peppy and vibrant style of compering. The husband-wife pair presented the show with wit and humour with masterful command over language.
Songs like 'Narlam Volem' 'Madoncnji', 'Annachi', 'Fabella' and others received rousing response from the audience.
Stan Menonca, who presented a musical nite recently in Mangalore was present during the show. His musical album released 'Ashavadi' which was released in Mangalore was again released in Dubai during the event. Walter Nandalike of daijiworld released the album.
During a brief stage programme Walter Nandalike, Dayan D'Souza, Vincent Fernandes, Ramiro Mascarenhas were guest on the dais. Joseph Mathias and Lancy Noronha were also present.
"This is a rare moment in Konkani musical show not only as Lancy Noronha has provided an opportunity to talented and budding artistes, but also because the Nite has witnessed the presence of three popular young Konkani composers on a single stage. This is a rare scene, as these days we nornally do not see more than one composer on the stage in Konkani programmes," said Walter Nandalike in his address. He was referring to Lancy Noronha, Stan Mendonca and Vincent Fernandes, all three popular composers of current generation who came on stage in solidarity with Lancy Noronha Nite.
"All three of them reside outside India, music is their hobby but they have sacrificed their quality time for Konkani music. They are the real hope for the future of Konkani music," he said.
In a word of appreciation for Joseph Mathias, he said, "He is a successful who entrepreneur loves Konkani music and spends his resources and time on music. He also promotes budding artistes. On the whole, Konkani music is in the safe hands of a person like Joseph," he said.
Joseph Mathias was felicitated for his dedicated service to Konkani community and music. Walter Nandalike presented a shawl and flowers to Joseph Mathias and his wife Flavia Mathias. Dayan D'Souza presented a peta to Mathias.
"The success of today's musical show goes to all the artistes who rendered their voices; this honour is for all of them and not for me," Joseph Mathias said acknowledging the honour.
He thanked the sponsors, media, and all those who were involved in the show. "I will support budding singers as much as possible. We must see Konkani music growing day by day," he said.
He appreciated Lancy Noronha for his efforts and said Lancy has huge potential to become a great singer-composer in Konkani.
Raju Francis Fernandes of SPPT, the main sponsor of the event was felicitated during the event.
Earlier, all the artistes who were part of the musical nite were felicitated by Joseph and Lancy.
A short magic show was also organised to entertain the children and the adults. Well-known magician of Mangalorean community in Dubai - Antony Mascarenhas from Puttur - presented the magic show.
Ramiro Mascarenhas directed the music for the show.
