Kundapur, Apr 17: The election commission has made elaborate preparations for the conduct of the assembly election in Karnataka in a peaceful and orderly manner. Even as the tempo of election is gaining momentum with each passing day, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) contingents are being dispatched to different constituencies to help the local forces to maintain law and order.
180 CRPF personnel arrived in the town from Assam on Monday April 15 afternoon, to assist the administration in Kundapur and Byndoor constituencies. These contingents, which travelled in a special train which left Assam in April 9, reached Udupi on Monday morning. Police circle inspector, Manjunath Kavari, received the personnel, and made arrangements for their stay at the government students hostel at Nehru Maidan here.
Every contingent has two teams with 90 personnel each. These contingents, which belong to Chali company, is led by two persons. C155 contingent is led by assistant commandant, Naresh, while B20 team is led by inspector, Rajkumar. The teams, tired from a week’s travel, will take to the field under the guidance of local police officials, on Wednesday April 17.
Assistant commandant, Naresh, said that out of the 22 battalions in his company, four have been dispatched to Uttara Kannada district, while two have been diverted to Kundapur. “The contingents will be in station till the counting of votes is completed, as per the directions of the election commission. We have come to Karnataka for the first time, and are feeling that the climate is quite hot here. We prepare our own food, and the members of the contingents are happy,” he said.
