Mangalore: Footwear store near State Bank gutted in midnight fire

Mangalore, Mar 29: Fire broke out at a footwear store near Rao & Rao Circle, State Bank road here late night on Thursday March 28.
The incident took place at around midnight in Sri Mahadeva Footwear located in Vasudev Enclave complex.
Short circuit was suspected to have caused the fire, said sources. As there were no fire alarms installed in the shop, the fire was already blazing when a passerby noticed it first and called the police.
The shop is owned by Babulal. The loss caused by the incident is yet to be ascertianed, however, the fire charred a major portion of the stock kept in the storage area.
Six fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control before it could spread further. Though there was a shop selling chemicals nearby, luckily the fire did not spread there. Altogether there are 20 shops in the complex.
Speaking to daijiworld, chief fire officer Varadraj said that they fire station received the call at 12.35 am, and immediately six fire tenders and 25 personnel were rushed to the spot. The operation was completed by 4.30 am, he said.
Pandeshwar and Bunder police personnel also arrived at the spot.
Bunder police have registered a case.
