Mangaluru, Jan 22: St Agnes School CBSE celebrated the feast of its patron saint, St Agnes, with great devotion and lively festivities on January 20 in the school auditorium. The atmosphere was filled with joy and reverence as the school community came together to honour their patron saint.
St Agnes, renowned for her unshakable faith and extraordinary courage, is revered for her steadfast commitment to her convictions. Born into a wealthy Roman family circa 291AD, she chose a life devoted to God, resolutely adhering to her principles even in the face of persecution. Her martyrdom at the tender age of 13 continues to serve as a powerful source of inspiration for generations to come.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Meena Lobo, a member of the PTA executive committee, and Liston Derick D’Souza, vice president of the PTA. The chief guest was warmly welcomed to the programme with a ceremonial presentation of a portrait of St Agnes, symbolizing the saint’s virtues of purity, faith, and devotion. This poignant gesture served as a lasting reminder of St Agnes’ unwavering commitment to her values, inspiring all present to emulate her exemplary qualities of faith, purity, and dedication.
The programme began with a soulful prayer service, setting a tranquil tone, followed by captivating performances, including a prayer dance and a vibrant welcome dance by the students. Reemal Mendonca graciously addressed the audience, while the principal, Sr Maria Sarika AC, extended a floral welcome to Lobo, and the vice principal presented the PTA vice President with a potted plant.
One of the event’s highlights was a poignant tableau depicting the life of St Agnes, enacted by the students. The tableau vividly illustrated the virtues of St Agnes, leaving the audience deeply moved by her courage and unyielding faith. The performance culminated in a stirring song, further evoking admiration and respect for the saint’s legacy.
In her address, Lobo encouraged students to uncover and nurture their unique talents, urging them to harness their abilities to inspire positive change. She emphasized the significance of self-confidence, a strong relationship with God, and the valuable lessons imparted by the life of St Agnes.
The principal expressed heartfelt appreciation for the students' dedication and exceptional performances, congratulating them on their hard work and wishing everyone a joyous feast. The celebration also honoured academic excellence, with awards presented to top-performing students in the writing wizard competition and the science talent exam 2024-25. These accolades celebrated the students' creativity, critical thinking, and intellectual achievements.
The event was skilfully compered by Adithi K P and Vidhathri, ensuring seamless transitions throughout the programme. Joan Kurian delivered a sincere vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the students, staff, and distinguished guests. The celebration concluded with the resonant school anthem, leaving everyone with a lasting sense of devotion, courage, and the inspiring legacy of St Agnes.
