M'lore: Distribution loss of MESCOM is among lowest - MD Sumanth

Mangalore, Feb 13: "The distribution loss of MESCOM is lowest among all ESCOMs which is 12.9% and in Mangalore city it is 7%", said S Sumanth, managing director of MESCOM.

He addressed the gathering during an interaction with media at the press club on Tuesday February 12.

S Sumanth said, "MESCOM ranks top in the country when it comes to distribution of power and distribution loss with annual turnover of Rs 1650 crores. MESCOM is having an independent load dispatch center located at Mangalore with SCADA facility which monitors demand and supply of electricity, he said.

Speaking about the peak demand in January 2013, he said, "the state peak demand is 8549 MW with highest consumption per day being180 MUs. When it comes to MESCOM, the peak demand is 723 MW and highest consumption per day is 15.5 MUs".

"To meet electricity supply in the city, there are seven units of 33/11 KV sub stations which includes 4 new sub stations at Kadri, Kudroli, Nandigudde and Attavar. The other three are at Mannagudda, Kankanady and Maidan. To connect these sub stations, there is one 220 KV sub station at SRS Kavoor and there is one 110/33/11 KV sub station at Kulshekar belonging to KPTCL. Adding to that, the project of 110 KV sub-station of KPTCL is in progress at Bejai and Jeppu. With these two sub stations being completed, there will better supply and no problem of load shedding", said Sumanth.

"The company this year is going to focus on regularization of IP sets as there are 21,693 unauthorised IP sets. Regularization of these installations is in progress and creation of required infrastructure for power supply to IP set installations is the main work in the next 8 to 10 months. this would cost upto Rs 75 crores", he added.

Adding to that the company is also planning to install close circuit TVs to the stores of the company and to selected offices for monitoring purpose with an aim for better internal control.

Commenting on the benefit of consumers, MD said, "contact cards with phone numbers of concerned officers from the station and  executive engineers is being given to the consumers in all the 4 districts to contact them during emergencies and power interruptions.

"MESCOM assures 18 hours of continuous power supply daily and power cuts are conducted when there is maintenance work. When it comes to irrigation pump sets it is 6 hours", adding to that Sumanth requested the irrigation consumers to avoid running their pump sets from 6 pm to 10 pm to avoid load shedding.

Jayaram Alva, financial advisor, Sukumar, superintendent engineer, Jagadish, executive engineer, Muralidar Nayak and other staffs of MESCOM were present.
