Kundapur, Dec 29: Months after he was let down by the Shettar government after being promised a berth in the ministry at the time government re-formation, former BJP MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty has finally put in his papers and quit from the party.
Shetty resigned from the primary membership of the party on Friday December 28. Halady had sent a letter intimating the party about his resignation a few days back, and on Friday, he sent his resignation to BJP state and district units.
It may be recalled that in July this year, Shetty had been called to Bangalore to attend the oath-taking ceremony of chief minister Jagadish Shettar, on promises that he would be given a berth in the ministry. However, at the eleveth hour, Kota Srinivas Poojary was given a portfolio while Halady was let down.
The move was seen as a betrayal among the BJP leaders and Halady supporters from the coastal districts, and amid an uproar especially in Kundapur, Shetty resigned from his MLA post stating that he was hurt. He had represented Kundapur as MLA four times, and hence the people too were expecting him to get a ministerial berth.
Speaking to mediapersons, Halady confirmed that he had resigned from the primary membership of BJP and that it had been accepted by the Udupi district unit of the party.
On his future political plans, Halady said that he was in no hurry to take any decision. "I will consult my supporters, the people and my well-wishers before taking my next step forward," he said.
