Udupi, Dec 21: Enraged by the inhuman act of gang-rape of a 23-year-old medical student in a moving bus in Delhi on Sunday December 16, students under the banner of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Udupi district held a protest in front of the Gandhi Statue situated near the Service Bus Stand here on Friday December 21.
Addressing the gathering convener Shivakumar said that the heinous gang-rape reported in the National Capital has put the country in shame. It is a shame to the civilized society in the country. Immediate action to punish the culprits is needed otherwise it may lead to more such crimes, he rued. He also urged the government to make sure that all the accused are arrested soon. He also said that state government should take action over the rape cases reported in the state.
Later a procession was taken out by the students from the bus stand to Tahashildar office and a memorandum was submitted.
Students from Dr G Shankar Government Women First Grade College Udupi and other colleges in the city took part.
ABVP leaders Akshay, Abhishek Jain, Nisha and Sandhya among others were present.
