Mangalore, Dec 19: An illegal commercial complex near Ambika Road in Thokottu on NH66 was demolished as per the orders passed by tashildar here on Tuesday December 18.
The operation was conducted by assistant commissioner, revenue officials along with the police.
Nine cents of land out of the total 16 cents land owned by Rajesh Shetty has been acquired. In the same land, in spite of several warnings by the tashildar, Rajesh Shetty constructed a commercial building which was demolished yesterday.
Assistant commissioner Dr Venkateshayya visited the place. With the JCB, two pillars of the building were removed. Later when the owner pleaded him, he returned back giving him grace period of three days.
Speaking to media, assistant commissioner said that the land has been acquired for widening of the national highway from Nanthoor to Talapady. Out of Rs 75 cr which has been sanctioned, an amount of Rs 45 cr has already been given to the owners whose land has been acquired.
Some of the residents appealed to the high court. But the court’s decision was against them and it has ordered to continue with acquisition.
