Bantwal, Dec 18: In an unfortunate incident, a stag died after it was hit by a train at Manoor in Thumbay here on Monday December 17 night.

The stag was hit by a train that was moving towards Mangalore, sources said. It was killed on the spot.

Bantwal forest officials on Tuesday December 18 visited the spot and handed over the carcass to veterinary doctors for examination, after which it was buried.

The stag had not been noticed in the vicinity before. Forest officials suspect that it may have lost its way and strayed into the area.

As soon as the news spread, curious locals gathered at the spot to have glimpse of the rare but unfortunate visitor.

Such Stags are found in Maryhill near the IGP's house & helipad. If one travels at night they could be lucky to see. Remember, they are wild animals and could attack.
