Udupi, Dec 10: St Cecily’s Composite PU College organized its decennial celebrations at the campus ground, here, on Friday, December 7.
The function was presided over by bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo. In his presidential address he stressed on the fact that true education ensures all-round development of young minds.
Vinay Kumar Sorake (Ex MP) was the chief guest for the function. Sr Tresilla read the annual report.
S S Shinda, DDPU, Udupi, Yashpal Suvarna, president, DK Udupi District Fisheries Federation and Sr Edna Furtado AC, secretary, the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society were the guests of honour.
The programme consisted of various cultural programmes including prayer dance, drama on the theme ‘protect nature avoid adopting western culture’, skit on ‘village spoiled by a plastic company and how common man can protect his village’, aerobics and yoga combination dance, dances on patriotism, a skit on protecting the girl child, mime on mobile reverse effect, and story of Jesus.
The college has 700 students and 29 staff.
A book ‘Green world, village world’ based on the project of a student this year was released by Vinay Kumar Sorake during the function. He spoke about the necessity of utilizing the government funds for promoting education and said he is glad that his wife and daughter were the students of St Cecily’s.
He also congratulated students for organizing the colourful cultural programmes and also for portraying some sensational and serious issues. Girl child is the asset of our country, determining the sex of the baby and aborting the baby is illegal and now –a- days girls can contribution to the society more than men, he added.
S S Shinda mentioned the importance of educating girls and said an institution like St Cecily’s plays a significant role in this field.
Principal Sr Rosy Mendonsa AC welcomed the gathering. Devendra Nayak compered the programme and Annette Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
Sr Edna Furtado and Yashpal Suvarna expressed their good wishes.
The former principals of St Cecily’s Composite PU College Sr M Sudeepa AC and Sr M Louella AC were felicitated by the bishop.
