Udupi, Dec 7: World AIDS Day is observed all around the world on December 1 every year, dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.
AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007 and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007, making it one of the destructive epidemics to be recorded in history.
An AIDS awareness programme was organized by Udupi Dhanvantari College of Nursing in association with JCI Kalyanpur and Kemmannu Gram Panchayath to create awareness about modes of transmission of the virus and prevention of AIDS. The program was conducted in Kemmannu Daily Market area on December 6 at 10:30am.
Jyothi Louis, Panchayath president; Muralidhar Suvarna Former JCI president; Mitra Kumar, JCI president; Satish Shetty president Ganapathi Seva Co-operative Bank; Prathibha L Braggs, principal, Udupi Dhanvantari College of Nursing were present at the venue.
Gayathri third year GNM compered the programme; Uday Kumar welcomed the gathering. Veena, assistant lecturer, Udupi Dhanvantari College of Nursing, delivered the vote of thanks. Nearly 200 people present at the venue.
