Mangalore, Oct 25: Sri Vishweshateertha Sripada Swamiji of Pejawar Math performed Aksharabhayasam at 'Manjuprasada', the residence of Kalkura, Kadri Kambla road here on Wednesday October 24.
The programme was organized under the aegis of Kalkura Prathisthana.
Speaking on the occasion, Swamiji said that education is an important aspect for the growth of a child. On the auspicious day of Vijyadashami, it is a practice of performing Aksharabhayasam said Swamiji.
Swamiji lauded Kalkura Prathisthana for holding such a meaningful programme.
Scholar Vittal Acharya of Pejawar Math, Chaturvedi Prabhakar Adiga Kadri performed Vidyarambham ritual.
Kids who wanted begin Aksharabhyasam, Karnatic Music, instrumental music, Bharathanatya and Yakshaghana had participated in the programme.
Various artistes performed on the occasion.
M B Puranik, president of Sharada Vidyalaya Institution welcomed the gathering, Sudhakar Rao Pejawar and G K Bhat Seraje compered the programme.
Anil, senior regional mangaer of Indian Overseas Bank, KS kalluraya, M Raghunath Shet, Dayanand Kateel, Nithyananda Karanth Polali, Prabhakar Rao Pejawar, S M Hegde from Telecom department, G H Moorthy, Janardhan Hande among others were present.
Vidyarambham is an occasion when young children are introduced to the world of reading and writing. Initiation into the world of alphabets usually begins with the writing of mantra on sand or in a tray of rice grains.
In Hindu religion, usually when the mind of the child is ready to receive education, a ritual called Aksharabyasam or Vidyarambham is performed.
