Sohar, Oman, Oct 21: THE 3rd edition of the Mangalore Friends Corporate Cup organized by Mangalore Friends Sohar was conducted on the 12th and 19th of October 2012 in Sohar, Sultanate of Oman.
The tournament had 28 corporate companies participating in the tournament. For the first time in Sohar an interschool tournament was organized along with this corporate tournament in which Indian School, Pakistan School and Bangladesh School participated.
The tournament was sponsored by major corporate houses in Oman and supported by Mangalore Balaga Sohar.
The interschool tournament was a huge success. In the first round Indian School defeated Pakistan School “B” team and Bangladesh School defeated Pakistan School “A” team on the 12th of October 2012. Bangladesh School defeated Pakistan School team with a thrilling last ball six. In the finals played on 19th October 2012, Indian School defeated Bangladesh School easily to lift the first Manglore Friends Inter School Tournament in Sohar.
In the Corporate Cup, Al Nahdha successfully defended their crown by defeating Shamal Plastic Ind LLC in the finals. Al Nahdha reached the finals by defeating Al Seer Trading in a thrilling match which went into a Super over, which Al Nahdha eventually won. In the other semifinals, Shamal Plastic beat last year’s runners up Composite Pipes.
A grand prize distribution ceremony followed, the chief guests comprised of representatives of the sponsor companies and Mangalore Balaga Sohar.
The Best Batsman was Deepak Shetty from Shamal Plastic, Best Bowler was Arif from Al Nahdha and the man of the tournament was Sajid from Al Nahdha.
The two week’s event was a huge success as the crowds flocked to witness the nail baiting matches. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and cold drinks were provided by Mangalore Friends Sohar to all participants as well as visitors.
Mangalore Friends Sohar also announced that they will come back bigger and better next year.
