Mangalore, Oct 20: The inaugural of the new batch of MBA, MCA and M Tech courses at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, was held on October 19.
The programme began with a prayer song, invoking God’s blessings on all the first year students, their parents, the faculty and the second year students.
Dr Gopal Mugeraya, professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and dean-students welfare NITK Surathkal, was the chief guest. Fr Joseph Lobo, director SJEC, presided over the function.
Fr Ajith Menezes and Fr Rohit D’Costa, assistant directors SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principl SJEC were the guests of honour.
Dr Demian D’mello, head, department of computer science and engineering, professor Nithyananda, head, department of electronics and communication engineering were present on the dais.
Dr Rio Dsouza, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering and introduced the chief guest of the day. The MBA, MCA and M Tech courses were inaugurated by lighting of the lamp.
Professor Nithyananda and Dr Demian D’mello introduced briefly the new M Tech courses started in the present academic year M Tech digital electronics and communication systems and M Tech computer science and engineering respectively.
Dr Gopal Mugeraya in his address stated the importance of teaching and learning process, the need for knowledge assimilation, knowledge dissemination and knowledge generation.
He also said that every student has to be a professional to excel in this world and learning beyond the classroom through internship projects is very important to gain employability skills.
Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal SJEC said that, to gain proficiency, to apply higher level of skills and analytical approach, a post graduation degree is very important.
Fr Joseph Lobo, director SJEC, felicitated the chief guest Dr Gopal Mugeraya. In his address, he stated that it is important for every student to work hard efficiently and effectively to increase their confidence, capability and desire.
He summed up by saying, "that a fast walker reaches the destination much faster than the person who walks slowly".
The inauguration session came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by assistant professor K Satish, department of electrical and electronics engineering.
