Dunlop Urges Unions to Enter into Dialogue

Kolkata, Oct 20 (IANS): The management of beleaguered Dunlop India Ltd (DIL) has urged trade unions to sit for a "fruitful dialogue" with it on reopening the closed Sahagunj plant in West Bengal's Hooghly district.

Operations at the tyre-making factory had remained suspended from October 2011, despite several tripartite meetings among the representatives of the company, unions and the state government.

"The management is willing to sit once again either before puja or after puja to discuss the modalities for an early resumption of the deadlock leading to the start of operations at Sahagunj at the earliest," according to a copy of the communication addressed to the unions.

"The Dunlop management sincerely hopes that the unions representing the workers of the plant will now see reason and expeditiously sit for a fruitful dialogue with the management to reopen the closed plant," a company release said here Friday.

The tyre manufacturer had also suspended operations at its factory in Ambattur in Tamil Nadu from February this year, citing labour unrest.
