Oct 19: The ninth All India Kannada cultural convention will be held on November 3 and 4 at Surat, Gujurat. Veteran litterateur, Sunitha M Shetty will preside over the occasion.
The convention is organized by Karunada Sangha in collaboration with Surat and Hrudhayavahini, said the committee honorary presidents Suresh Shetty Bellary and Dharmapal U Devadiga.
In Gujarat, there are more than 40,000 Kannadigas, with ten Kannada associations are functioning.
In Surat, the convention will be related to literature, wherein a poet meet, comedy programme, press conference and a conference for Kannadigas from other places will be held said K P Manjunath Sagar, convention sponsor and president of Karunada Sangha Shrinivas Shettigar Convention committee president.
Vice presidents of Karunada Sangha Prabhakar S Suvarna and Aravind N V said that the cultural programme will showcase Yakshagana, drama, Bharathanatyam and other folk dances which has been organized for the convention.
The convention will be inaugurated on November 3 at 1 pm , and on November 4 at 3 pm the valedictory programme will be held.
On this occasion, people who have contributed in different fields like medicine, technology and literature will be felicitated with the award ‘Hrudayavantharu 2012’ said Anitha R Acharya, honorary secretary of Karunada Sangha.
Anitha R Acharya urged Kannadigas from Maharashtra and Gujarat to actively take part in this convention.
This event will be held with the support of Vanitha J Shetty, Yakkob Kadhar Gulwadi, Shrinivas Karriappa Mandya, and other representatives and members of the committee.
