Udupi, Oct 18: A major protest was held by the ABVP in Udupi against the extra fee payment to be paid by the poor students implemented by the state government.

The protest was organised from Kadiyali to Taluk Office via Kalsanka, service bus stand.

The fact that the state government has decided to refund the fees of the backward class community for category 1, 2, 3 and 3B is acceptable and welcomed. But the payment of study fees, exam fees and lab fees for Category 2A, 3A and 3B is highly comendable.

Earlier, these fees were paid by the State Government. The current move by the government is taken in a negative manner, as the current situation of draught and inflation will be difficult for the poorer sections of the society to pay the fee increment.

Hence, there is a need for such a rule to be withdrawn with immediate effect, the protestors urged.

ABVP associative secretary, Shivakumar, ABVP city secretary, Abhishek Jain, students of Kadiyali Indira Shivarao Polytechnic and others were present.
