Mangalore, Oct 15: The Dakshina Kannada district committee of DYFI held a protest in front of Lady Goschen hospital road here on Monday October 15 urging for the construction of Government Lady Goschen Women Hospital which was demolished long ago for the purpose of modernization.
Muneer Katipalla, district president of DYFI said that poor and middle class people have been suffering a lot with regard to medical treatment as treatment facilities in private hospitals are very expensive.
"Pregnant women from poor families and middle class families depend on Government Lady Goschen hospital for labour, but with the demolition of the hospital building they are deprived of facilities. The current situation prevailing in the half retained building of the hospital is appalling," he said.
He slammed the government for indirectly trying to privatize the hospital by canceling the free treatment available in the hospital. "The government believed an Andhra-based entrepreneur who promised to donate funds for the new building and demolished the old building, and now no politicians are following up the issue," he said.
A procession was taken from DC’s office to Lady Goschen hospital. Various leaders of DYFI took part in the protest.
