Mangalore, Oct 14: “The Mahathobhara Shree Mangaladevi Temple will be organizing a Navaratri Utsav at the temple here from October 16 to 25”, said Sudhakar Rao Pejavara, at a press meet held at the temple premises, here, on Saturday October 13.
He said that DC Dr Channappa Gowda will grace the occasion by inaugurating the programme at 9 am on October 16. On October 20, the ‘Janapada Kalotsava’ will be held. “Those who are interested can register their names for the competition,” he said.
The cultural programme of the utsav will be inaugurated by Nithin Kumar, president, Karnataka State Fisheries Development Board.
City police commissioner Manish Karbikar will preside over the valedictory ceremony. Swami Jitakamananda, president, Ramakrishna Mutt, Dr Naveen Shetty, principal of Shree Ramakrishna College, Bunts Hostel, will be the chief guests.
‘Janapada Kalotsava’ will be held at the Ranga Mantap of the temple. First, second and third prizes will be awarded. There will be four categories- namely junior (for children studying between 1st to 4th standard), senior (for children studying between 5th to 7th standard), high school students (8th to 10th standard students) and public (above 10th standard). There will be no entry fee. Interested students can register their names before October 18.
On October 18, 7.30 pm onwards yakshagana ‘Shree Krishna Leele – Kamsa Vadhe’ will be staged by the student artistes of Shree Mahakali Kripaposhitha Yakshagana Adhyayana Kendra, Kunjatthor and on October 20 night, Shree Mookambika Yakshagana Mandali Mangaladevi will stage a yakshagana show ‘Bedara Kannappa’.
