Mangalore, Sep 4 : Three men on Monday September 3 night created havoc in the vicinity of Bondel Chruch by ringing the church bell, without the permission from the parish priest. For a moment, it spread panic among parishioners who heard the ringing of the bells, because it was unusual, and untimely.
Normally, bells toll at scheduled times like mass, prayer, funeral etc. When one hears bells on other occasions than these, it usually means something has happened or it may be the news of the death of some religious leader.
But on Monday, three men, repordetly two of them Christians of Kerala origin and another friend of theirs from Mangalore came to Bondel church heavily drunk, and offered prayers outside the church. One man then suddenly started ringing the church bell!
Within minutes, people gathered in fear, only to find that the three men were doing this. Immediately, people caught them and handed them over to the police.
During police interrogation, it was revealed that a friend of Stany, who was among the three men, died a day before, and he was very upset about his death. To mourn his friend's death, Stany first went to church, prayed for his soul, and then pealed the bells!
One of daijiworld's readers sent pictures captured from his mobile phone and informed us of the incident. It was learnt that people had started gathering fearing another communal attack in Mangalore ! But one of the members from the Church administration informed us that matter was not worth mentioning as it would give wrong singal to the people at night time.
