Mangalore, Aug 11: “The state government has failed to keep law and order intact in the state. The constitution is completely broken down; therefore the honorable governor must immediately call for ‘President’s Rule’ in the state”, said Supreme Court lawyer Prof Ravivarma Kumar on Saturday, August 11.
He was addressing the likeminded citizens of Mangalore during a public discussion on ‘illegal moral policing and Indian culture’ here in Sahodhaya Hall, Balmatta, Mangalore.
Lashing out the rule of BJP government, he said that the home stay attack would not have happened if it was not backed by the police forces and the government at large. “Hence, even the Home Minister should resign from the post”, he said.
Condemning the report of Manjula, chief of Karnataka State Women’s Commission, he said that she made the ‘entire woman community bend their head in shame’ through her report.
“Instead of presenting the facts, she has indirectly safeguarded the attackers. There has been a systematic protection method working behind the screen to defend the attackers. Due to the pressure from the public, a case has been registered against the attackers and investigation is on. However, once the public calms down, nothing serious will be done in terms of investigation. Therefore, the pressure from the citizens should go on until proper judgment is taken”, he added.
After inaugurating the session, writer B T Lalitha Nayak, Vedhike founder president Ravishankar said that nobody has the right to force dress code on women. She added that women today enjoy freedom unlike in the yesteryears. She also condemned Manjula’s report.
Senior journalist Raghuram was the chief guest for the event.
The talk was followed by an interaction session, wherein Kukudha Kamath, mother of Gurudath Kamath, one of the victims, and many others spoke.
